This appointment will be on a part‑time basis, depending on the specific needs of the department/program.
Duties and Responsibilities- Teach the on‑campus course COMX 111US – Introduction to Public Speaking, including two hour recitations and a one‑hour lecture that combines multiple recitation sections.
- Instructor lecture:
Deliver content focused on communication theories and strategies while modeling effective public‑speaking components. - Recitation:
Facilitate practical applications and student speeches. - Commit to supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
- Degree in Communications or related field.
- Master’s degree.
- Experience teaching at the college or university level.
- Experience teaching public speaking.
- Working knowledge of technical presentation formats.
- Create and implement engaging student learning experiences.
- Modify and adapt curriculum components to meet individual student needs.
- Develop and employ appropriate assessment techniques.
- Relate effectively and establish rapport with a diverse student population.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills and collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students.
- Take initiative and work well independently.
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Show strong interest in student success.
- Appreciate diverse constituencies and add intellectual diversity to the department.
- Use technology to support teaching (online learning platforms, lecture capture, video conferencing tools).
- Position may be a Union position. Non‑Tenure Track Faculty with 0.5 FTE or more are represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). Faculty may choose to pay dues; this is a condition of employment.
- Positions less than 0.5 FTE are not represented by the Union and are not required to pay dues.
- Changes in FTE may affect representational status.
- Exemptions:
Those who have completed a PEI exam or who work in Extension.
