Position Overview
Department:
Modern Languages & Literatures (College of Letters & Science), Montana State University. This description is for an applicant pool for non‑tenure track Arabic instructors. Instructors typically teach 1 to 5 language classes per semester. Positions are contingent on enrollment and funding and may be part‑time or full‑time (0.10–1.0 FTE). The pool is maintained for up to two years; after that, candidates will be asked to resubmit their materials.

Applications are accepted on a continual basis as long as the pool remains active. Applicants will be notified when a position becomes available and if they are being considered for an open role.
Duties and Responsibilities- Teach 1 to 5 Arabic language classes per semester.
- Design and deliver course content, including assessments, and maintain course materials.
- Provide academic advising and support to students.
- Participate in departmental meetings and any additional academic duties as required.
- Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to promote a high‑quality learning environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a foreign university.
- Master’s degree or equivalent from a foreign university in Arabic or a closely related field, or equivalent knowledge and experience (e.g., superior level proficiency, extensive residence abroad).
- Proficiency in Arabic appropriate for the instructional level.
- PhD in Arabic or another relevant discipline.
- Superior level proficiency in Arabic.
- Experience teaching at the college level.
Positions with 0.5 FTE or greater are represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). Positions below 0.5 FTE are not represented by the union and are not required to pay dues.
