Position Overview

The Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship offers a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management. To accomplish our mission, our teaching faculty should have professional experience in hospitality management. We seek experienced professionals with the ability to teach in more than one hospitality management area, including hotel management and operations and restaurant management and operations.

General Statement

Montana State University invites experienced hospitality professionals to the Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship faculty as Instructors, delivering high‑quality instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We seek dedicated professionals who are passionate about teaching and mentoring students, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and can collaborate effectively with faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will contribute to student success and academic excellence while supporting the mission of Montana State University through engaging, real‑world hospitality education.

Instructional assignments are contingent upon departmental needs and the availability of funding.

Applications are accepted on a continual basis (unless otherwise indicated) and will be maintained in the pool for up to two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to resubmit their application materials for continued consideration. Application materials will be reviewed by the appropriate search committee or hiring authority, and applicants will be notified if they are being considered for an open position.

Non‑tenure‑track appointments may be part‑time or full‑time and vary in duration depending on the specific needs of the department or program. Salary is dependent on the number of courses taught and the duration of the appointment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate hospitality courses in on‑campus and/or online formats, ensuring high‑quality, engaging instruction.
  • Incorporate real‑world applications and experiential learning to enhance student understanding of hospitality principles and practices.
  • Stay current with industry trends, professional standards, and advancements in hospitality education to maintain course relevance.
  • Foster a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Master’s degree in Hospitality Management, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Business Administration (MBA), Culinary Arts Management, or a closely related business field.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Significant (5+ years) high‑level management, ownership, or operational experience in the hospitality industry (e.g., hotel/lodging, restaurant/food service, or event management).
  • Prior university‑level teaching experience.
  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. or DBA) in Hospitality Management or a closely related field.

  • Non‑Tenure‑Track Faculty – Any position that is .5 FTE or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU).
