Position Overview
We invite applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position focusing on agricultural process engineering for value‑added agricultural products. The recipient will lead a nationally recognized research program and support a new degree program in Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering.
Duties and Responsibilities55% research (MAES), 35% teaching (COA), 10% service.
Value‑added agriculture seeks to transform raw commodities into higher‑value products, expanding market opportunities, and fostering economic vitality in Montana. Responsibilities include conducting cutting‑edge research on fiber use, high‑value commodity transformation, and food systems engineering for Montana‑produced commodities, as well as developing and teaching courses for the new degree program.
- PhD degree in agricultural engineering or a closely related engineering field by the start date.
- Demonstrated potential for research achievement in value‑added agricultural product design and engineering.
- Evidence of strong communication of research, including peer‑reviewed publications.
- Demonstrated potential for teaching, effective mentoring and training of students, employees, or early‑career professionals.
- Record of conducting innovative research that advances fundamental understanding of value‑added agricultural product design and engineering.
- Demonstrated potential to secure funding via successful grant proposals.
- Demonstrated ability and interest to work collaboratively across disciplines and take on leadership roles in interdisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students with differing backgrounds.
- Help MSU continue to provide outstanding teaching, scholarship, engagement, and service in meeting the goals of the MSU Strategic Plan.
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Possess effective interpersonal skills, interacting collegially with faculty, students, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrate commitment to integrating the experiences of faculty, students, and stakeholders in collaborative research, teaching, engagement, and service.
