The Bozeman Daily Chronicle, the go-to source for news and information in southwest Montana, is seeking a general assignment reporter for one of the nation’s fastest-growing regions.

Our new staff member will have a wide-open canvas to report on anything from local government, public safety and health to natural resources, schools and rural landscapes extending into Yellowstone National Park. You’ll cover meetings and events but also write features about fascinating people and take deeper dives investigating issues you hear around town.

This is a full-time on-site role for a Reporter based in Bozeman, MT. The Reporter will be responsible for researching, investigating, and writing accurate and engaging news stories. The role involves covering a variety of topics, conducting interviews, attending events, and working on tight deadlines to produce timely and high-quality news coverage. In addition, the Reporter will collaborate with the newsroom team to create multimedia content and ensure audience engagement through excellent storytelling.

• Strong reporting and investigative skills to uncover and develop compelling stories.
• Excellent communication and interview skills to build sources and gather accurate information.
• Proficiency in written communication, including exceptional writing and editing abilities for news articles.
• Familiarity with multimedia and digital news tools to enhance storytelling and engagement.
• Experience in news writing, with the ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a newsroom team and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
• Prior experience in newsroom reporting and local journalism is highly desirable.
