Role

Summary:

The Superintendent will plan, manage and execute on all aspects of assigned projects with some complexity. This position will be responsible for managing material and equipment, assisting with people management, ensuring documentation is complete and meeting project goals to achieve timely and profitable completion of each project. This Superintendent will support our Self Perform work and will travel to assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities - Core
  • Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture and demonstrates commitment to an injury-free environment through personal actions and mentoring others. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
  • Manages subcontractors and the organization of the overall job and workflow.
  • Oversees company staff, subcontractors, suppliers and programs such as Safety, Quality and EEO for a project or a major portion of a larger project.
  • Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
  • Coordinates and manages care, custody and control of the project site.
  • Leads meetings including daily standup and weekly trade meetings; participates in progress and/or project OAC meetings as appropriate.
  • Creates, manages, and updates the project schedule in collaboration with the Project Manager.
  • Monitors project budget and costs using project management system reports as needed.
  • Communicates key project information to owners, design team, authorities, subcontractors, suppliers and other departments.
  • Maintains project documentation, drawings, logs and inspection notebooks; follows the project filing system.
  • Records unit costs, completes daily reports, logs and tracking reports; evaluates progress on self-perform work and adjusts as needed.
  • Manages material and equipment needs for the project.
  • Supports procurement and approval processes related to materials and other costs.
  • Assists in selecting formwork, tools and equipment for self-perform operations.
  • Manages timecard approval to ensure accurate hours and cost codes.
  • Ensures quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC and relevant resources.
  • Supports project closeouts by supervising pre-punch activities and coordinating with owner, architect and authorities.
  • Participates in project pursuit and project review meetings; supports field leadership in staffing and project changes.
  • Understands and applies owner and subcontractor contract terms and conditions.
  • Identifies and recruits top talent and promotes diversity and inclusion in the organization.
Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core
  • Manages fairly complex stand-alone projects from start to finish.
  • Assumes responsibility for management, scheduling, production, safety and quality on their project or portion thereof.
  • Identifies, understands and manages project risks; proposes solutions for team review.
  • Manages deliverables from internal resources and functions (e.g., IPS, logistics).
  • Participates in project pursuits and negotiations with owners/architects for project changes.
  • Assists in project buy-out meetings with subcontractors and vendors.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Effective presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with construction management software and scheduling tools.
  • Understanding of construction management processes and how they support project completion.
  • Ability to build relationships within and outside the team; experience with Lean principles preferred.
  • Knowledge of self-perform and labor productivity; budgeting and profitability awareness.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred).
Experience
  • 5+ years construction experience.
  • 3+ years field supervision experience.
  • Experience with Lean principles (Preferred).
Working Environment
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May require periods of travel and/or relocation.
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs.
