The Adult Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) is a healthcare provider who, through education and experience, possesses a body of knowledge and skills related to care of the adult patient across the lifespan who is experiencing general medical conditions or general surgical interventions. The RN applies general nursing knowledge in assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient response to general and specific conditions, therapies and interventions.

The RN initiates nursing care, health teaching, and health counseling that supports life and restores well-being. Nursing care is performed in accordance with the nurse practice act and under the direction and supervision of the appropriate client representative(s) on the assigned Adult Medical Surgical Unit.

Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate School of Nursing.

Current and unrestricted RN nursing license in the state of practice. BLS and NIHSS certifications required.

Two years of experience as an RN in an Adult Medical Surgical Unit in the last three years. EMR experience – Meditech preferred; in Emergency – Meditech required. Must have MS Orthopedics (Ortho) & MS Neuro experience.

Current CPR at least to the BLS level; and other health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies.

Various client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials. Flu vaccine required with no exemptions.

Shift: Nights, 3x12s or 4x12s. Ratios: 1:6.

• Complies with ATC policies/procedures.
• Complies with client facility nursing policies/procedures.
• Conducts individualized patient assessment and data collection based on needs and condition.
• Performs ongoing nursing assessment per patient condition and client facility protocols.
• Collaborates with team to develop, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care.
• Performs treatments and therapies as ordered by physician in a timely fashion.
• Provides individualized patient and family teaching.
• Documents patient assessments, findings, and psychosocial responses to interventions.
• Initiates emergency measures according to resuscitation protocols.
• Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA.
• Provides patient care that respects diversity and autonomy.
• Advocates patient rights with respect to advance directives and organ donation.
• Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift.
• Maintains competency by continuing education and meeting state requirements.
• Complies with ethical conduct and professional standards of nursing practice.
• Demonstrates ability to delegate effectively and appropriately.
