Job Description:
Western Kentucky University, a member of Conference USA and a Football Bowl Subdivision NCAA member institution, seeks to hire an individual for the position of Assistant Director of Compliance
. This is a 12-month, full-time position. This position will report directly to the Senior Associate Athletics Director of Compliance and Student Affairs. Applicants must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of WKU, Conference USA and the NCAA.
The following duties are customary for this position but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
- Primary Athletics Compliance Office Oversight for monitoring Initial Eligibility, Recruiting Activity and Playing and Practice Season and other assigned areas of regulation, as necessary
- Primary oversight of all Official Visit documentation including but not limited to, Official Visit Forms being completed in a timely manner, Oversight of all receipts, documentation of visit, and all athletic compliance related criteria surrounding official visit bylaws
- Monitor academic, amateurism, eligibility and financial aid rules of the NCAA, Conference USA, and Western Kentucky University.
- Evaluate transcripts for incoming freshmen and transfer student-athletes
- Monitor and assist with the progress of prospective student-athletes through the NCAA Eligibility Center process
- Maintain records of student-athletes outside competition, employment, and other activities related to their amateurism status
- Serve as the secondary liaison for the Athletic Compliance Office with one or more of the following campus departments:
Admissions, Registrar s Office, International Office- Monitor and assist with the progress of prospective student-athletes through the institutional admissions process
- Coordinate receipt and distribution of student-athlete transcripts and student records as needed for eligibility and/or waiver purposes
- Monitor student accounts as it pertains to athletic and institutional scholarships.
- Serve as a primary Athletics Compliance Office contact/liaison for specific sports (determined by the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Compliance) related to all areas of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Office of Financial Aid to administer the awarding of initial and continuing offers of athletically related financial aid to all student-athletes
- Develop and supervise systems/forms to monitor and document institutional compliance
- Interpret and provide education to students, coaches, athletic staff and representatives of athletics interest on NCAA rules, policies and regulations.
- Coordinate and conduct educational sessions with pertinent parties as needed
- Provide rules interpretations to coaches and staff as needed
- Monitor new NCAA legislation.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews to identify any potential athletic compliance issues.
- Report information required by the NCAA and Conference USA.
- Participate with amateurism oversight.
- Participate in the preparation of NCAA squad lists, and financial aid agreements.
- Oversight and training of office student workers/GAs/Interns and support staff
- Special projects as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance.
- Experience with NCAA waivers, monitoring, and international student eligibility.
- Experience working with NCAA Eligibility Center and Compliance Assistant.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to make decisions independently without oversight from supervisors.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Must be able to use Microsoft Office.
- Must be able to learn and use Team Works Hub
- Strong attention to detail.
- Must be self-motivated and team-oriented.
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends.
- Must be willing to travel on an occasional basis.
