The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally chartered, nonpartisan institution that was created by the US Congress to serve as America’s national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and an educational institution dedicated to the history and lessons of the Holocaust. The Museum seeks to educate Americans from all 50 states and all walks of life as well as international audiences.

The Museum has three areas of expertise:
Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and education, and genocide prevention.

Overview of Internship

Title: Intern Archival

Session Dates: June 1, 2026 - August 14, 2026

Job Type: Paid Internship

Hourly Rate of Pay: $16.00

Work Location: Bowie, MD (Hybrid/Onsite)

Work Schedule: 20 hours per week

Student Type: Graduate

Information About The Office/Division

The David M. Rubenstein National Institute for Holocaust Documentation's major responsibility is to collect, preserve, and make available the Museum's Collection of Record and to support the Museum's wide-ranging efforts in the areas of research, exhibition, publication, education, and memorialization. The Archival Arrangement and Description Branch is responsible for the archival processing of the Museum’s Collection and licensed archival copy collections.

The branch organizes and describes these materials to make them discoverable and accessible to staff and the public through Collection Search.

Major Duties And Responsibilities
  • Updating and correcting Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, and German inventories for digitized international collection to improve accuracy, discoverability, and access.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently in Graduate School
  • Fluency in Polish, working proficiency in Russian and Ukrainian, and intermediate knowledge of German.
  • Some graduate education in archival studies.
  • Interest in making digitized international collections more discoverable and accessible, supporting the Museum’s mission to disseminate knowledge about the Holocaust, and preserving the memory of the victims.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience researching digital Holocaust-era primary source material and finding aids on the sites of international archives.

Eligibility Criteria
  • The student must be 18 years or older currently enrolled as a full‑time student at an accredited college or university
  • The student must have completed at least the first semester of their freshman year (At least at the time of application)
  • Provide proof of legal right to work in the United States
  • Must be able to pass a background check

    Must reside in the United States for the full duration of the internship program
  • Must complete their background check while physically present in the United States

Interviews for the Summer 2026 internship program will begin in March 2026; for advanced applicants. Final selection decisions will be made by April 2026, and all candidates will be notified of their status via email by Human Resources.
