Treatment Room Practice Nurse - The Banks & Bearwood Medical Practice

The Banks & Bearwood Medical Practice are looking for a Treatment Room Practice Nurse to join our friendly and patient orientated surgery located in Dorset. We take pride in our staff and our patients, to make the best possible surgery for the care of our patients. Bearwood Surgery currently in the last phase of a new build and the Banks Surgery currently locating new premises.

The post holder will have the opportunity to provide a general practice nurse service which would include cytology, wound care, immunisation, compression therapy and care of long-term conditions, experience in these areas is desirable but not essential.

Job responsibilities
  • Works independently and under indirect supervision and reports to Sister Carol Joy.
  • Is accountable to the Head of Nursing, partners and the Primary Care Network for their actions, working within their level of competence.
  • Working in accordance with NMC guidelines, the post holder will provide assessment, treatment, screening, health education and advice to patients.
  • Abide by the legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice and maintain registration with NMC and revalidation requirements.
  • The post holder will work with reference to Practice agreed protocols and procedural guidelines, providing nursing treatments to patients both independently and in participation with Nurse Colleagues and General Practitioners.
Education/Experience Essential Qualifications
  • Registration on Part 1 of the NMC Register
  • Evidence of effective team working
  • Ability to write and maintain accurate records
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Previous experience of working within a Primary Care Setting

Please note that pay rate depends on experience and training.

Job Type:Permanent, Part-time 26.5 hours (split over 4 days but would consider 3 long days. This will include Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and a late finish on a Wednesday night at 7pm)

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Responsible for maintaining high standards of care for patients and ensuring that care is delivered in accordance with recognised quality standards e.g., NICE guidance.
  • Provide nursing treatment, assessments, and screening to patients.
  • Be aware of and adhere to local Child Protection Procedures.
  • To be flexible in response to a varying caseload and Practice emergencies.
  • Advise patients on general health care, health education and minor ailments with referral to other team members of the primary health care team as necessary.
  • Maintain clear lines of accountability to manage any evidence of poor clinical practice.
  • To adhere to the Nursing Council Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Exercise awareness of professional responsibilities being familiar with current evidence and taking opportunities for personal development in line with Revalidation.
  • To keep up to date with mandatory training.
Other tasks may include
  • Cleaning of medical equipment used.
  • Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of the treatment rooms.
  • Restocking of treatment rooms.
  • Assisting with the ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels.
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
