Job Description & How to Apply Below

Help The Friendly Food Club fight food insecurity across BCP & Dorset by coordinating and supporting our amazing volunteers. Support recruitment, onboarding, training and inspire people making real community impact. Flexible, remote-friendly role. 💛

What difference will you make?

For people facing food insecurity, volunteers are often the first welcoming face they meet — offering dignity, warmth and reassurance at difficult times. This human connection reduces stigma, builds trust and helps people feel valued rather than judged, creating safe spaces where meaningful support can happen.

For Friendly Food Club, volunteers enable us to reach more people, respond flexibly to local needs and remain rooted in community insight.

Ultimately, volunteers create lasting change — strengthening families, building resilience and helping communities thrive. 💛. Volunteers have time to listen to individuals and make all the difference for that one person. One person at a time, we help to build confidence, try new things and transform lives.

What are we looking for?

A Volunteer Coordinator at Friendly Food Club should be a warm, organised and people-centred individual who believes in dignity, community empowerment and compassionate support. This role is less about formal management and more about building trust, nurturing relationships and creating positive volunteer experiences that directly support families facing food insecurity.

You ideally will live in the BCP or Dorset area.

Key Skills
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, with a friendly, inclusive approach
  • Strong organisation and time management, able to coordinate volunteers across multiple projects
  • Ability to motivate, encourage and support people from diverse backgrounds
  • Emotional intelligence and empathy, particularly when working in sensitive community contexts
  • Confidence working independently while collaborating with a small team
  • Problem-solving skills and calmness when responding to challenges
  • Use of IT and online systems for record keeping.
Relevant Experience
  • Experience volunteering or working in community, charity, education, health or support services
  • Supporting, mentoring or coordinating people (formal or informal)
  • Experience working with families or vulnerable communities (helpful but not essential)
  • Basic admin or systems experience to support onboarding and communication
Values & mindset
  • Non-judgemental, compassionate and culturally aware
  • Flexible, proactive and relationship-driven
  • Motivated by social impact rather than hierarchy or structure

Our Volunteer Coordinator will play a central role in helping Friendly Food Club grow its impact by building, supporting and sustaining a strong volunteer community. Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do from delivering our sessions, fundraising, communications and content development.

We strive to ensure that each and every volunteer feels welcomed, valued, confident and motivated to continue to contribute to our mission of creating healthier futures.
