Job Description & How to Apply Below

Overview

The Education and Training Department within University Hospitals Dorset is continuing to develop and we are looking for two experienced educators to join our innovative and dynamic simulation team as Simulation Practitioners.

Contract

1x 7 month Fixed Term Contract or Secondment opportunity.

Role

As a Simulation Practitioner you will work as part of an established and experienced simulation team including simulation practitioners, technicians and fellows.

Responsibilities

The objective of this role is to plan, deliver, and support others to deliver high‑quality simulation‑based education (SBE) and transformative simulation (TfS). SBE focuses on the learning and development of individuals and is commonly driven by curriculum requirements such as foundation doctors or student nurse programmes. TfS uses simulation to create change or improvement, primarily around transformation work within the Trust.

Working

Environment

The Education and Training Department is a large team providing clinical and non‑clinical education across all three sites of University Hospitals Dorset. The role will be predominantly based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site, but cross‑site working will be expected. Facilities include state‑of‑the‑art Simulation Suites with high‑fidelity patient simulation manikins and computer technology, and a Simulation Ward incorporating audio‑visual technology enabling live streaming to other locations.

We also operate lecture theatres, large clinical skills training rooms, seminar rooms and a dynamic conference room. All our facilities are linked through Microsoft Teams and deliver blended learning opportunities to our users. Training is enhanced using a variety of manikins, anatomical task trainers and mixed reality headsets.

Additional Information

UHD is investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move sites this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting managers will be happy to answer any service‑specific questions at interview.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

UHD has active networks including Women, DEN, Pride, EU, Pro Ability, and Armed Forces. We support Disability Confident and Armed Forces Covenant interview schemes.

AI tools may be used, but applications must honestly reflect your own skills and experience. Integrity is key to our recruitment process.

For UHD employees, this fixed‑term post will be offered as a secondment in line with the Trust’s Secondment Policy. Please speak with your line manager before applying.

Please note, sponsorship cannot be offered for external applicants due to the length of contract.

We welcome applications from a variety of backgrounds and are available for informal discussions.
