Part time Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in Bournemouth, working part time with young people aged 16–25 who have a range of complex Special Educational Needs.

This provision supports learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), and attachment and trauma-related difficulties. Many learners have experienced disrupted education and benefit from a highly structured, nurturing, and relational approach that supports both personal development and academic progress.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support learners aged 16–25 both academically and emotionally. You will help create a safe, consistent environment where young people feel understood, supported, and able to re-engage with learning and life skills development.

• Supporting learners aged 16–25 with SEMH, ASC, and trauma-related needs
• Providing 1:1 and small group support
• Helping learners to regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively
• Promoting engagement, independence, and self-confidence
• Implementing individual support and behaviour plans
• Supporting learning across a range of subjects and vocational activities
• Building strong, trusting relationships with learners

• Have experience working with young people with SEN, particularly SEMH and/or Autism
• Demonstrate patience, empathy, and emotional resilience
• Be calm, consistent, and confident in supporting behaviour
• Understand the impact of trauma on behaviour and learning
• Be flexible, proactive, and a strong team player
• Have a genuine commitment to supporting young people as they transition into adulthood
• Be able to work 2-3 days per week, we can be flexible with days but you must be able to work set days each week

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
