Senior Project Accountant
The Senior Project Accountant will oversee financial management, reporting, and analysis for multiple active projects. This role will work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and senior leadership to ensure accurate financial performance, strong internal controls, and timely reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced in managing complex project accounting environments.
Salary$115k - $130k
Responsibilities- The Senior Project Accountant will manage the full project accounting lifecycle, including budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and revenue recognition.
- Prepare monthly project financial reports and variance analyses for management review.
- Monitor project profitability and recommend corrective actions when needed.
- Review and approve project-related invoices, purchase orders, and subcontractor payments.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to maintain accurate job cost projections.
- Support the month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Assist with annual audit documentation related to project financials.
- Develop and streamline project accounting processes to improve operational efficiency.
- 5-8+ years of accounting experience, with a strong focus on project accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and project accounting/ERP systems.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Proven ability to analyze financial data and communicate insights.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
- Experience in construction, engineering, real estate development, or related project‑based industries.
- Experience with percent‑completion accounting.
- PMP, CPA, or CMA certification (or progress toward one).
- Experience implementing or optimizing project accounting software.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- A CPA or an MBA is preferred.
