Compensation DetailsFull‑time hourly position.
Salary range: $34.51–$50.05 per hour.
Scheduled weekly hours: 40.
Benefit eligibility group: BMEA (20+ hours).
Under limited supervision, the Water Instrumentation and Controls Technician installs, maintains, revises, and repairs electrical, instrumentation, control, and mechanical equipment throughout the water treatment and distribution system facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform installation, maintenance, repair, and calibration of treatment plant and remote facility electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems, instrumentation, switch gear, and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot by using efficient, organized, and logical techniques to identify, locate, and repair problems.
- Install, maintain, repair, and calibrate detectors, alarms, analyzers, and sensors for flow, level, pressure, and other process elements such as temperature, pH, and chemical residual.
- Maintain records of installed equipment, encountered problems, and work performed, including parts and materials used; complete maintenance forms and enter preventive maintenance data into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Assist with general data entry and review of data entered into the CMMS.
- Assist in monitoring process control systems using diagnostic software; update software and data based on operational and maintenance needs; maintain and update panels, PLCs, and related input and output equipment.
- Develop, perform, and maintain a thorough calibration and maintenance schedule of system instrumentation; maintain calibration and maintenance records within CMMS.
- Estimate equipment repair costs and downtime; aid in recommending contracting out of repairs; maintain inventory of parts, spares, and accessories.
- Provide input to engineering consultants and contractors regarding design and construction of treatment facility improvements.
- Assist in training operations and maintenance staff in the proper use and care of electrical and electronic equipment, programmable controllers, related software, and associated safety concerns.
- Maintain the organization and cleanliness of maintenance offices, shops, and all work areas; keep a clean and safe work environment.
- Remain alert and communicative to conditions and events at the water treatment facility indicating anticipated or needed repairs; make related recommendations.
- Assist plant maintenance and operations personnel with maintenance not directly related to controls or electrical, including mechanical and general facilities maintenance, as needed.
- Perform small valve, solenoid, pipe, mounting, lighting, housekeeping, and landscaping repairs as examples of additional duties valuable.
- Comply with all city and department policies;
