Research Associate II, Particle Characterization
Vitri Vax is creating thermostable, single‑injection vaccines using the ALTA® technology platform. This full‑time position in Boulder, CO focuses on developing and applying analytical methods to characterize spray‑dried and ALTA® products and in‑process materials containing a variety of active pharmaceutical ingredients. The role will transition into the quality control department and reports to a Senior Particle Research Engineer.
Responsibilities- Execute various particle characterization assays.
- Stay current on particle characterization techniques and coordinate testing by third parties when needed.
- Support liquid‑based API methods when necessary.
- Maintain and calibrate analytical instruments.
- Independently design, execute, and author reports summarizing material properties of ALTA® particles, intermediates, and processes.
- Execute methods and train staff for routine use; support investigations when material or methods deviate from expectations.
- Work effectively and dynamically in cross‑functional teams to complete partner projects under aggressive timelines.
- Support investigations of ALTA® manufacturing processes.
- Ensure that methods and equipment are fit‑for‑purpose and adhere to company policies and safety guidelines.
- Must be able to perform the responsibilities and duties listed above.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Technical skills in developing, qualifying, transferring, and troubleshooting analytical methods.
- Experience with general particle analytical techniques (Karl Fisher, surface area analysis, SEM, density, ICP‑MS, AAS, powder flowability, friability, etc.) and dissolution methods.
- Background with lyophilized or spray‑dried pharmaceutical products, particularly proteins, lipids, or mRNA lyophilization preferred.
- Understanding of ICH Q8, Q9, Q10 and Quality by Design preferred.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis methods and standard office tools (Excel, Word).
- Ability to work directly with project managers, scientists, and clients to meet project goals.
- Experience handling hazardous chemicals, viable human cells, biological substances, and laser beams.
- Capability to routinely lift up to 30 lbs.

Salary‑band: $80,000 – $100,000 DOE (dependent on experience).
