NP - Qualifications

  • Certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Qualifications for both PA and NP
  • Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) is required and verified by School Transcript.
  • Certification as a nurse practitioner by an approved certifying organization.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association required.
  • ACLS certification required by the end of the conditional period.
  • DEA certificate and prescribing and dispensing privileges.
  • Two years of Cardiothoracic Surgery experience required.
Responsibilities
  • Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients.
  • Reviews patient records.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
  • Performs complete physical exam and records findings. Establishes presumptive diagnosis.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  • Prepares written prescription orders for drugs.
  • Assists in transition of care from inpatient to outpatient settings.
  • Completes written sign outs when going of shift and interim summaries when going off service.
  • Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.
  • Assists physicians by recording patient progress notes. Issue diagnostic orders and transcribes orders.
  • Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation.
  • Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
  • Ability to assess, diagnose, and treat all ages served.
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  • May perform “First Assist” on surgeries as needed.
  • Provide post acute follow up care in the Cardiology Clinic.
