Reports to: Senior Manager of Internship Programs

Hourly Range: $25-28/ hour (based on experience)

Start/End Date: As soon as possible - August 31st

Summary/Objective
Environment for the Americas (EFTA) is a non-profit organization located in Boulder, Colorado. EFTA works to connect diverse people to conservation through education and outreach, meaningful work experience, and international partnerships. Our Internship Programs are an important example of how we accomplish this goal. We work with underrepresented youth across the country and federal and non-governmental agencies to provide internship opportunities.

These intensive experiences introduce participants to important job skills and provide opportunities to work side-by-side with biologists, educators, researchers, historians, and other professionals at national parks, wildlife refuges, and other natural areas across the country. The incumbent would primarily work in the preparation, coordination, and execution of the Let's Go Birding internship program.

The Let's Go Birding internship program is a partnership between Environment for the Americas, Birdability, and the National Park Service, aims to ensure all people can experience the joy of birding. Interns work to reduce barriers to birding, working to ensure individuals with mobility challenges, blindness or low vision, chronic illnesses, intellectual or developmental disabilities, neurodivergence, and those who are deaf or hard of hearing enjoy equal access to recreation in National Park Service sites.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Coordinate and help facilitate intern's internship training in Estes Park, Colorado.
  • Assist with promotion and recruitment of internships at disability group centers, colleges and career fair events.
  • Screen and interview applicants
  • Onboard interns and coordinate travel logistics of intern training and intern arrival at host sites
  • Mentor and supervise interns with various disability needs during their internship including participants who are neurodivergent, have a physical disability or chronic illness.
  • Facilitate accommodations for interns, when needed.
  • Communicate with host site supervisors and project partners at the national level.
  • Organize program activities throughout the year including development of program budget, travel meetings with partners and visits to participating sites.
  • Assist with program office tasks including program uniform and materials purchasing, inventory, and packaging, and events out of the Boulder office.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience supporting individuals with diverse needs including chronic illness, neurodivergence, and physical disabilities.
  • Experience providing accommodations in the workplace or outdoor recreation.
  • Proven ability to be organized and experience planning activities.
  • Must be available May 11- 16 for intern training in Estes Park, CO.
  • Capable of working independently.
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Ability to travel to program sites;
  • Has a valid driver's license and has the ability to drive rental vans.
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends when necessary.
  • Possesses good basic computer skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with diverse and underrepresented youth is a plus.
  • Ability and interest in birds, birding, and bird conservation is a plus.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds and to bend and stand as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position of up to 20 hours a week during Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Up to 10% travel. Some out of the area travel and overnight may be expected.
