The Patrol Deputy promotes and preserves order, investigates crimes, conducts traffic violation enforcement, defends persons from imminent physical harm, responds to requests for service and resolves conflicts. They enforce County Resolutions, Federal and State statutes and protect constitutional guarantees.
Must have completed a State Certified Law Enforcement Training Academy and be Colorado P.O.S.T. Certified or currently enrolled. Lateral applicants will be highly considered and started at higher salary level.
New employees receive an 80‑hour bank of vacation at hire, plus 8 hours of vacation and medical leave accruals each month.
Responsibilities- Enforce County Resolutions;
State and Federal statutes and traffic laws. - Carry out Court Orders (civil and criminal).
- Investigate criminal and non‑criminal cases.
- Prepare and execute detailed arrest and search warrants.
- Conduct crime scene investigation and processing (photography, latent fingerprints, reconstruction, basic ballistic, blood splatter, plaster casting).
- Prepare cases and testify in court.
- Conduct and organize Search and Rescue efforts.
- Work closely with other employees, law enforcement agencies, social workers, lawyers, volunteers, professional firefighters, paramedics, rescue workers and other members of governmental agencies.
- Complete detailed computer offense and incident reports.
- Makes arrests based upon probable cause and personal observation.
- Attend required firearms proficiency testing.
- Enter and query an online computer system.
- Operate emergency vehicles and equipment.
- Special duties after additional training (SWAT Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Canine handling, Mountain Rescue, Detective/Investigation, DUI and Traffic Enforcement).
- State Certified Law Enforcement Training Academy completion and Colorado P.O.S.T. Certification or enrollment.
- Minimum 5 years law enforcement experience.
- 21 years old.
- No felony convictions, DUI/DWAI record, domestic violence, drug use, marijuana, or other disqualifying offenses.
- Good driving record.
- ‑lateral applicant preferred; may receive stipend if proficient.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- College degree in Behavioral Sciences or Criminal Justice preferred.
- Civilian or military law enforcement experience helpful.
- Complete in‑service recruit‑training program.
- Accurate perception, sound reasoning and judgment.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Initiative and tenacity in influencing events.
- Stress tolerance and performance under pressure.
- Personality conducive to public service and diversity.
- Compassion, critical thinking, problem solving and integrity.
- Resident of Colorado;
Colorado driver’s license. - Pass Operations Division EJD test.
- Obstacle course 101 seconds or less.
- Lift 35 lbs from floor to 5 ft; lift 60 lbs at least 25 ft; drag 150 lbs 25 ft; push car 10 ft; scale 5 ft fence; run 1/4 mile 162 sec or less.
