Advanced ROC Operator with 2-4 years of experience working in an operations center for a generator operator/owner, a utility, Scheduling Entity/Market Participant, or the Scout ROC. The SRO will provide oversight and management of day-to-day ROC tasks as well as training and mentorship to the Operators on shift. While the ROC Manager and Lead ROC Operator serve as the direct supervisor (functional manager) to all ROC Operators for administrative purposes, there will be a dotted line to the SRO, and the SRO will serve as a project manager for the day-to-day ROC tasks.
GeneralDuties
- Personnel Management:
Work in conjunction with ROC Manager and/or Lead ROC Operator to provide 24/7 on-call support to shift Operators. Senior ROC Operator will be provided a monthly cellphone allowance to support this responsibility. - Provide coverage for vacant shifts.
- Recommend ROC training to the ROC Manager based on operator needs. Supervise all monitored on-the-job (MOJT) training for new Operators.
- Provide follow on training for ROC Operators and manage follow on training assignments as part of Operator side-work.
- Interview ROC Operator candidates as required.
- Serve as an Administrator for the building security system.
- Coordinate with the building landlord for exterior door access. Manage building access for all contractors or support personnel through coordination with the Office Manager.
- Provide recommendations to the ROC Manager for upgrades and improvements to ROC equipment.
- Assist with writing and refining ROC policies & standards published by the ROC Manager or other AMO leadership.
- Spot check the operations log for accuracy of log entries.
- Assign Operator side-work in support of operational need.
- Ensure that all published policies, procedures, and standards are followed.
- Assist with Operator training and change management.
- Manage and supervise Operator side-work.
- Lead ROC tours as required.
- Ensure the ROC remains tidy, neat, organized, and clean.
- Provide support to the Operator on Shift via phone, email, or other communication method during night shifts and weekends as required.
- Assist with ad-hoc analysis as required by the Asset Management team.
- Assist with NERC filings requiring site data: breaker misoperation, GADS, generation reporting as required.
- Support transactional data requests from the Scout team or from third party stakeholders. This includes recurring tasks:
Offtake agreements (Proxy Revenue Swaps or hedges), Monthly extraction of permanent met mast data, Ad hoc data requests. - Management of the Data Historian:
Support improvements to the data historian;
Assist with or troubleshoot communications issues;
Coordinate with the vendor for all updates, improvements, and customizations;
Build new tags and modify existing data tags;
Oversee or design, build, and improve operational screens;
Serve as the account administrator;
Manage the notification services: build new alarms/notifications, modify alarms, improve alarms based on operational need.
- Support integration of all new construction projects into the Scout ROC.
- Gain familiarity with new project SCADA systems. Train ROC Operators on SCADA and build site-specific procedures and resources as needed.
- Coordinate, assist with, or perform all site testing: ERCOT Part II/III, MOD testing, or other ISO required testing.
- SCADA and Networks:
Create, modify, and manage SCADA access for all Scout users;
Manage the site SCADA and cybersecurity networks in accordance with NERC standards;
Identify issues with Operational SCADA and Network systems and coordinate with AMOTechnology team for resolution.
Minimum of two years of experience working in real time operations for a utility scale generator operator or a utility. An SCE ROC Operator with one-year experience, outstanding performance, and relevant prior experience will also be considered for this role.
Not required but preferred:
Has current industry recognized certification (ERCOT, NERC, PJM, etc.) Will be expected to obtain an industry recognized certification within 12 months of starting the role.
- High attention to detail and the ability to work proactively and productively without direct supervision.
- Minimum of one year of experience working with SCADA systems. This includes, but is not limited to wind turbine OEM SCADA systems, substation SCADA systems, and/or SCADA data aggregation/historian platforms (ex. OSIsoft Pi, Bazefield, Power Factors, Canary, etc.).
- Minimum of one year of experience communicating with Balancing Authorities, Transmission Operators, Reliability Coordinators, and/or Scheduling Entities.
- Knowledge and familiarity with local area networks, wide area networks, and ISP networks is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with writing, editing, or collaboration on operational procedures.
