Family Nurse Practitioner
Jail Division

Pay Range: $60.76 - $87.54 per hour

Under minimal supervision, provides professional medical midlevel care. Provides direct patient care in accordance with the statutory limitations for Midlevel Practitioners and may perform administrative support functions as required.

Responsibilities
  • Provides medical care to inmates including conducting exams, chronic care clinics and diagnostic testing
  • Provide patient education, specifically around issues related to medications and treatment adherence, and aftercare services. Document all activities in the electronic medical record in a timely, concise and clear manner.
  • Evaluate patients for the need for a higher level of care, including hospitalization. If a patient is hospitalized, maintain contact with the hospital staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Prescribes appropriate medications in accordance with pharmaceutical guidelines and standards of practice.
  • Orders initial and/or routine laboratory tests and follow-up on results, orders additional tests or initiates referral appointments with specialized caregivers.
  • Review Medical records, laboratory, x-ray and EKG results and intervene as medically indicated.
  • Evaluates practice in relation to professional standards, statutes, regulations, departmental policies, and standards of care.
  • Evaluates quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of nursing care provided.
  • Delivers care in a nonjudgmental, nondiscriminatory manner that preserves patients’ rights and acts as a patient advocate.
  • Provide consultation to non-prescribing medical staff about diagnosis, treatment and/or the need for medication
  • Assures patient privacy before, during and after procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Is knowledgeable and compliant with all regulatory standards, including specialty (i.e. Corrections) level requirements
  • Knowledge of major concepts, principles and theories related to drug, alcohol and medical disease processes.
  • Knowledge of individual and group dynamics and treatment methods to assist clients in achieving goals.
  • Skill in preparing written reports, medical records, and other documentation.
  • Ability to be involved actively in multidisciplinary teams relevant to quality improvement.
  • Ability to serve as a consultant to resolve/discuss ethical issues.
  • Ability to use computers and computer systems.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registration
  • Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification/CPR.
  • Possession of a National Certification for Advanced Practice Clinical Nurse Specialty in Family Medicine.
  • Licensed by the Colorado Board of Nursing or Physicians with Prescriptive Authority.
  • DEA Buprenorphine X Waiver recommended.
  • All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
Education and Experience
  • Master of Science in Nursing degree or a Doctor of Nursing practice degree.
  • Typically, one-year experience in midlevel family medicine practice.
