Job Description Working as a Spacecraft Mechanical Engineering Designer at BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS) is an exciting opportunity to become part of a high-tech team of people developing innovative products for the Aerospace and Defense industry. Tasks are performed under the general direction of technical leads and functional managers, plus mentorship from Spacecraft Mechanical Engineering staff. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, detailed design and drawing generation of spacecraft structural components, interfacing with structural and thermal analysis teams, and overseeing the manufacturing assembly and testing of spacecraft and spacecraft subsystems.

* Perform CAD modeling and drawing generation in support of Spacecraft primary and secondary structure design and analysis to meet technical requirements, including drawing creation with GD&T.

* Support Requirements Development, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Test, and Requirements Verification.

* Proactively identify, communicate, and manage risk and opportunities.

* Provide technical oversight of Spacecraft structure related subcontracts.

* Support the design and analysis effort for new spacecraft structures from proposal phase through award, detailed design, fabrication, assembly, test, and requirement verification.

* Gain awareness of cost and schedule planning and tracking as well as managing efforts through robust engineering change processes including risk and opportunity management.

* Define, maintain, iterate, and verify the structural requirements that are needed to meet the system and other subsystem requirements and interfaces.

* Work on CAD and simple hand structural analysis calculations during proposal and program initial startup.

* Coordinate with personnel from all other spacecraft sub-systems including external interfaces such as customers, customer consultants, payload providers and launch vehicle providers.

* Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

* Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

* Perform other duties as necessary. On-Site Work Environment:
This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:

* Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.

* May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.

* May access other facilities in various weather conditions. Required Education, Experience, & Skills
* BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
* Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
* Proficient in Solid Works or equivalent 3D CAD software. #LI-MT1 A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access . Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
* An active Top Secret/SCI clearance preferred.

* Experience in Spacecraft design for aerospace applications.

* Experience designing Aluminum Honeycomb and CFRP structures for the space environment preferred.

* Demonstrated design analysis capability preferred.

* Prior participation in written and/or oral proposal/design review activities for external customers preferred. Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $79365 - $134921
