Giant Leap is an internship that puts you in charge of a real project from day 1.
Giant Leap is not just any summer internship program—it's your chance to lead your own project with the support of top experts in the field. We invest in your growth with a structured training program throughout the summer. This paid internship is the perfect platform for you to showcase your skills and passions. And even if our space-proof measurement technology operates on two planets, you would be based right here on Earth.
You will have a chance to put your skills and knowledge into use as you become the project manager of your own project with the support of your teammates and project supervisor.
Every Giant Leap project is unique and carefully selected to ensure genuine validity for our business and your learning. Projects arise from various areas within our organization:
Next summer you could be leading a project in software development, process engineering, communications, or machine data analysis, to name a few.
The Giant Leap Program offers projects in the following fields:
Research and DevelopmentWork on the enhancement of the company products by figuring out their possible issues and potential advancement.
Software Development, Data and AIBe involved in the improvement of different software platforms or in the utilization of AI in our processes.
Operations DevelopmentFind out potential solutions to enhance the good quality of customer order fulfillment.
Business and Sales DevelopmentPlan and conduct strategic activities to maintain and expand relationships with current and potential customers.
Vaisala's Giant Leap internship projects for 2026 have now been published. Explore the project topics, find the one that matches your interests and ambitions, and get ready to take your next step with Vaisala! The application period for Giant Leap 2026 projects runs from mid-January to early February in most office locations.
As a Test Engineer Intern, you will work on the Wafer Tester Temperature Studies project to improve the performance of Vaisala’s production test system for humidity and temperature sensors at the sensor factory. Your tasks include documenting the current temperature measurement capability, identifying and implementing improvements, and developing and validating a prototype to ensure production quality. You will use 3D modeling tools to analyze the system, pinpoint areas for improvement, and execute a plan.
We are looking for a master’s student in Mechanical Engineering with an understanding of physics and thermodynamics, skills in Solid Works simulation and Solid Works Flow Simulation, 3D modeling and rapid prototyping, and the ability to create clear technical documentation.
Natural Sciences or Technology Intern (HQ, Finland)
As a Natural Sciences or Technology Intern, you will work on the Sensor Stability vs Visual Appearance:
Correlation Analysis project. Your role is to investigate how the visual appearance of newly developed sensors relates to their performance under harsh conditions, combining hands‑on testing with data analysis. Tasks include planning and running stability tests, examining sensors using microscopy, applying statistical analysis to explore correlations, and summarizing findings into clear recommendations for factory visual inspection criteria. We are looking for a master’s student in chemistry, physics, materials science, data science, or a related field, who is comfortable working in a laboratory environment.
Digital Prototype Testing Intern (HQ, Finland)
As a Digital Prototype Testing Intern, you will work on the Digital Prototype Testing with Simulation Tools project at Vaisala in Finland. Your role is to explore how digital simulation can replace or reduce physical prototype testing by building and validating a simulation model for vibration and thermal performance of a selected Vaisala product. Deliverables include a report and recommendations for integrating simulation-based testing into the hardware development process.
We are looking for a student with a background in mechanical engineering, physics, or a similar field. Skills in CAD modeling and simulation…
