Job Description This position is responsible for the leadership, strategic alignment, and management of the Payload Chief Engineers organization. You will lead an enterprise-level organization that bridges payload technical leadership capabilities across all business areas and a variety of customer expectations. The Payload Chief Engineers Manager is responsible for management of people, processes, tools, and placement of Payload Chief Engineer personnel to aid in the execution of programs.
The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution. What You'll Do:
* Provide outstanding vision, leadership, and support to the Payload Engineering organization.
* Lead candidate hiring selection process, assign appropriate staff to programs, conduct performance assessments, engage in personnel actions, and support salary reviews, employee career goals, and recognition programs.
* Provide vision and thought leadership to develop BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems Payload Chief Engineer competency.
* Lead and engage Payload Chief Engineer team management and personnel in activities to provide consistency and guidance across the enterprise.
* Engage in Strategic Business Unit (SBU) activities to identify necessary skills and tools to execute programs.
* Anticipate and ensure talent and skill mix of the department are aligned with the current and future needs of programs and new business development organizations. May include hiring, assigning, and balancing personnel for various programs.
* Identify and execute initiatives to improve efficiency, promote knowledge transfer, reduce cost, and drive technical innovation.
* Guide and support internal career growth of our engineers, organize opportunities to engage as a team, and support employee retention.
* Ensure technical teams are appropriately trained and have the appropriate processes in place to meet the needs of programs and are compliant with approved standards.
* Provide part-time, direct support to programs or new business activities on an as-needed basis.
* Develop and improve engineering and technical processes; execute process corrective actions and Failure Review Boards, as required, support internal and external audits, and ensure compliance with ISO standards.
* Support program reviews throughout the development lifecycle. Coordinate and support technical reviews and anomaly responses, as required. Ensure payload hardware meets performance, cost, and schedule requirements. Proactively identify, communicate, and mitigate execution risks/challenges.
* Periodically participate in peer, independent and lifecycle milestone reviews.
* Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
* Perform other duties as necessary. On-Site Work Environment:
This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
* Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
* May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
* May access other facilities in various weather conditions. Required Education, Experience, & Skills
* BS degree or higher in Engineering or related technical field is required, plus 12 or more years of related experience.
* Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
* Experience working at a management level with a highly skilled, senior group of Engineers.
* Relevant work experience and technical understanding of tools, skills, and required resources for the technical design management of remote sensing payloads.
* Willingness to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance is required.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and with a team.
* Working knowledge of systems engineering best practices.
* Demonstrated competence in the following areas:
