Our Wendell, NC headquarters for Siemens Electrification & Automation delivers energy distribution systems and solutions nationwide. We are expanding to the western region with a new office in Boulder, CO. We power today’s grids and invest in future grid innovations. We’re seeking experienced professionals in power transmission and distribution, specializing in substation automation and protection relay engineering, to join our Power Systems Engineering team.
Responsibilities- Design, configure, and test protective relay systems for power systems and substations, ensuring high reliability and integrity of protection and control schemes for medium and high voltage substations.
- Develop and implement protection and control schemes that align with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer-specific needs.
- Design and/or support elaboration of Control Logic Diagrams, Signal Lists, and Functional Design Specifications documents during the design phase of the project.
- Prepare and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and set up testing environments for customer projects.
- Prepare and execute SAT and commissioning scripts for customer projects.
- Be one of our primary customer interfaces, including troubleshooting and commissioning support.
- Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and commissioning phases.
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronics/computer science engineering.
- Three years of engineering experience in power protection for electrical substations.
- Ability to read and fully understand DC and AC schematics, and one-line/three-line diagrams for medium and/or high voltage substations.
- Knowledge of at least one relay product (Siemens, GE, SEL, ABB, or other) and associated software.
- Experience with at least one common communication protocol (IEC
61850, DNP, Modbus, IEC
103, IEC
101, IEC
104, Profinet, Profibus). - Factory and site testing experience in protection and control systems.
- Travel of approximately 50–75% of nationwide travel is expected depending on project assignments and requirements.
- Experience in designing, configuring, and troubleshooting protection relay applications for low, medium, and high voltage substations.
- Proficiency with Siemens digital protection and control relays, particularly the Siprotec5 family.
- Hands-on experience with engineering software for Siprotec5 such as Digsi 5.
- Programming skills and familiarity with one or more industry-standard relay configuration tools, such as SEL AcSELerator, SEL Architect, Hitachi PCM
600, MiCOM, or GE Ener Vista UR.
