We are a Boulder-based real estate development and construction company with over 50 years of history, managing a diverse portfolio of development, construction, and homeowners association entities. We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Controller to oversee accounting and financial operations across our companies.
Position Summary
The Controller will play a key leadership role overseeing multi‑entity accounting, financial reporting, audit coordination, and transaction management across the organization. This is a hands‑on role suited for a highly organized accounting professional with strong construction and real estate experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Journal Entries & Financial Allocations – Prepare and post complex journal entries including depreciation, asset sales and disposals, interest receivable and payable, prepaid insurance, management fees, payroll liabilities, job supervision allocations, and intercompany lot transfers.
- Closing & Compliance Documentation – Manage receipt, tracking, and distribution of HOA closing letters, condo maps, Certificates of Occupancy, and surveys to title companies and internal teams.
- Sales & Work‑in‑Process Accounting – Track and verify all earnest money and change order deposits for sales staff. Record all home and lot sales and all costs of sales and work‑in‑process.
- Multi‑Entity Bookkeeping & Audits – Oversee bookkeeping for all companies under the corporate umbrella. Coordinate annual audits with outside CPA firms and provide all required supporting documentation.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in bookkeeping and/or accounting
- Proven experience with multi‑entity accounting
- Construction and real‑estate accounting experience strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Quick Books and general accounting software
- Strong understanding of journal entries, audit preparation, loan tracking, and compliance
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
- Professional communication skills with auditors, title companies, lenders, and internal teams
