Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Primary Assistant Coach will help in running an intercollegiate sports program at Emerson College. The primary responsibility of this position is to attend events where recruits are participating and identify, engage and recruit qualified student-athletes who fit both the profile of Emerson and the needs of the team. The Assistant Coach will be responsible for developing student-athletes, scouting teams, breaking down game film, and assisting in the organization and facilitation of practice and games.
Responsibilities- Assist with all aspects of the recruitment and retention of a diverse set of prospective student athletes such as prospect evaluation, prospect selection, and on-campus visits
- Assist head coach in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team training and match competition
- Assist in the identification and recruitment of potential student-athletes for the Emerson intercollegiate sports program, in accordance with NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines, and standards
- Lead, monitor, and coordinate training and practice sessions, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained
- Provide day-to-day guidance, assistance, and support to other assistant coaches on coaching training sessions and techniques of individual players
- Aid in the coordination and administration of the overall program, as required
- Represent Emerson College and the athletic department to institutional programs and externally to the media, students, parents, and the general public
- Assist with coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop players' technical ability and team tactical solutions
- Analyze the performance of the team, individual players, and opponents
- Provide leadership and instruction to improve the team and the individual player
- Mentor student-athletes to foster athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth
- Monitor the progress of prospective players during the application process
- Assist in coordinating and organizing potential player on-campus visits
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- A minimum of 2 years of coaching experience at the post-secondary level, professional competitive experience, or college playing experience required
- A valid driver’s license
- Demonstrated knowledge of technical skills and tactical strategy and the ability to effectively teach them and communicate with players
- Working knowledge of NCAA and NEWMAC rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them
- The coach must be self-directed, motivated, and able to work independently and under pressure
- Commitment to being a positive member of the Athletics Department and the College community and the ability to influence the athletes to do the same
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods
- Ability to concentrate for short and long periods of time
Willingness to travel, work nights and weekends is a must. The position is part-time, 19.4 hours per week.
