Overview
Perform a variety of specialized duties that support the operation of the Refrigeration Maintenance department in the Shaw’s Division. Monitor building equipment for safety purposes and repair. Troubleshoot refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical and electrical problems, perform repairs, document solutions and make recommendations for further action.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities- Make daily mechanical checks on equipment in the Mechanical Room, Roof, HVAC, EMS systems, refrigerated cases and walk‑ins.
- Maintain all refrigeration, HVAC, EMS systems, electrical, and mechanical systems and make necessary repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks, leak checks, inspections and record required information; maintain EPA forms and documentation in paper at the store and electronically in Corrigo and Trakref.
- Monitors preventive maintenance work done by outside contractors and notifies Refrigeration Manager of issues or problems.
- Responsible for troubleshooting refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical and electrical problems, performing repairs, documenting solutions and recommending further action.
- Maintain a high technical level in troubleshooting and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Manage communications for service calls in a timely manner as required.
- Maintain current license, inspection, permit and certificate requirements to meet all state and local codes.
- Operate EMS building controls and automation systems; fine‑tune operating parameters, adjust set points and schedules, and modify building control sequences.
- Perform administrative tasks such as ordering material, writing purchase orders and entering data for work reports and refrigerant leak reports via iPad.
- Perform all duties in a timely, efficient and professional manner.
- Maintain a neat, clean and safe work area in mechanical room, roof, service vehicle and other work spaces.
- Be willing to work overtime on weekends, holidays and after‑hours when on call.
- Reduce refrigerant leak rates at 7–10 stores.
- Perform preventative maintenance of refrigeration mechanical systems at 7–10 stores.
- Maintain detailed records related to maintenance and make recommendations for further action.
- Collect and update data and information; provide reports and basic analysis for the Refrigeration Manager.
- Review information/data and make decisions within defined guidelines, parameters and instructions.
- Act as a resource to staff in the work group and perform other related functions and duties as assigned.
- Education Level: High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of building‑related vocational technical programs preferred.
- Experience Level: Minimum of three years recent experience performing refrigeration service and maintenance work in building‑related trades.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High degree of accuracy and care to avoid mechanical breakdowns.
- Responsive to direct requests promptly.
- Maintain proper neat uniform appearance of company work shirt and clean blue jeans without holes or tears.
- Wear required personal protective equipment, including arc flash and safety glasses.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- EPA Section 608 Universal refrigerant certification.
- Ability to read and comprehend manuals, prints and work orders.
- Knowledge of tools and equipment maintenance.
- General record‑keeping skills.
- Customer‑service orientation and sensitivity to diverse needs of coworkers, employees and other persons contacted in daily work.
- Ability to work independently.
- Detail oriented, organized and strong analytical skills.
- Self‑motivated.
- Physical Environment: Supermarket environment; indoor and outdoor work. Use of trade tools and office equipment during normal workday. Manual labor required: lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, bending, twisting and reaching.
