General OverviewThe part‑time Maintenance Technician plays a central role in the daily operation of Heirloom – Boston’s growing portfolio. In partnership with the Property Operations and Housekeeping Departments, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for executing basic repairs and preventive maintenance to ensure that all properties meet Heirloom’s property maintenance and brand standards.
Essential Functions- Handling scheduled preventative maintenance and basic repairs, including:
- Essential home repairs such as replacing garbage disposals, unclogging drains, replacing toilets, replacing ceiling fans, etc.
- Troubleshooting equipment repairs (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) and determining if a third‑party technician is required.
- Hanging & mounting art, mirrors, decor, light fixtures, hooks, and floating shelves.
- Basic landscaping and groundskeeping: weed whacking, mowing, weeding.
- Essential pool maintenance: troubleshooting repairs, skimming, reconnecting pool vacuum, setting equipment timers.
- Basic carpentry repairs: fixing broken support rails in beds and couches, replacing balcony banisters.
- Drywall repair (patching and painting).
- Assisting with routine inspection of premises, equipment, and systems.
- Diagnosing mechanical, plumbing, and electrical issues and correcting them or coordinating with the Property Manager to schedule repairs.
- Assisting in overseeing technicians when professional repairs are necessary.
- Reporting needed repairs, low‑stock items, and maintenance needs promptly.
- Assisting with new property installations as needed, including hanging and mounting art, decor, window treatments, mirrors, and light fixtures.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, an upstanding driving record, and access to a dependable truck or van (not a sedan).
- A monthly gas stipend will be provided for vehicle use.
- Lives in close or commutable proximity to Boston (within 30 minutes).
- Prior in‑house maintenance experience (3–5+ years).
- Highly proficient in hand and power tools.
- Experience with hanging and mounting art, mirrors, decor, window treatments, and decor, including safely hanging oversize and overweight items.
- Experience with drywall repairs and painting; able to patch and repair drywall damage.
- Basic carpentry experience: repairing broken bed support beams, building basic floating shelves, repairing screen doors.
- Basic plumbing experience: repairing and replacing toilets and garbage disposals, unclogging drains, and knowing when to call a professional.
- Ability to replace and hang electrical fixtures (pendants, sconces, ceiling fans).
- Able to comfortably lift 50 lbs and climb a ladder.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required.
- Construction background or trade certification is a plus, but not required.
The Maintenance Technician is a part‑time hourly role based in Boston, MA. The schedule is variable and based on the guest check‑in/out schedule. In addition, open availability from Thursday to Sunday 4 pm – 8 pm local time is required.
