Job Description & How to Apply Below
You've already proven your commitment to service. Now it's time to continue that mission on the homefront.
The Massachusetts Department of Correction (Mass DOC) is partnering with Buffer Springs to offer a powerful Skill Bridge opportunity for transitioning service members who are ready to find purpose in their next chapter. This isn't about checking boxes or filling time. It's about stepping into a new kind of uniform and playing a real role in protecting and rebuilding our communities.
During your Skill Bridge with Mass DOC, you'll gain hands-on experience across multiple career paths. You'll work alongside officers, program leaders, medical teams, educators, administrators, and operational staff who wake up every day to serve a bigger purpose. Whether you're exploring a long-term career in public safety or testing the waters in a structured, mission-driven environment, this opportunity gives you a front-row seat to real impact.
What You'll Experience
- Go behind the walls and inside the system to see how the Department of Correction operates
- Shadow and support seasoned professionals across departments like custody, reentry, logistics, education, health services, and administration
- Attend live hiring events, academy prep sessions, and behind-the-scenes tours
- Receive mentorship from Buffer Springs and Mass DOC leaders who believe in growing talent from within
- Build relationships and gain insights that give you a competitive edge in the state hiring process
Who We're Looking For
You don't need to have a background in corrections to thrive here. You need discipline, character, and a willingness to keep showing up when it matters.
- You're a transitioning service member approved for the DoD Skill Bridge program
- You're driven by structure, purpose, and the opportunity to be part of something bigger
- You're curious about a career in public service, safety, reentry, or community justice
- You're dependable, respectful, and ready to learn from people who've spent years doing this work
Why It Matters
This isn't a job preview. It's a chance to figure out if this is the mission for you. Whether you're interested in becoming a Correction Officer, working in behavioral health, managing logistics, or running a facility, this Skill Bridge gives you direct exposure to the people and systems that make it all work.
You'll gain real knowledge and support to confidently decide what comes next after your military service. And if you choose to apply for a permanent role, you'll do it with insider insight, tailored preparation, and a network that's rooting for you.
