The Retail Sales Manager is the lead member and experienced contributor for the Retail Store team, with oversight and end-to-end management of the ICA Store’s operational excellence and sales goals. This dedicated leader is responsible for defining and executing daily, weekly, and seasonal operational priorities, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the ICA Store including inventory and stockroom management and managing and mentoring the retail sales team.
Furthermore, the Manager handles all aspects of online fulfillment and customer service. Due to the demands of a busy museum environment, the successful candidate must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
Required to work a minimum of one weekend shift and one evening shift (mandatory).

Working at the ICAAll ICA employees are required to reside in Massachusetts and within commuting distance from our Seaport location as of their first day of work.
ResponsibilitiesLead the retail team not only by example but through clear direction, delegation, and follow-up. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, acute attention to detail, and a proactive visual sensibility to ensure high standards are maintained across the store.
- Define, communicate, and ensure the execution of daily, weekly, and seasonal priorities across the sales floor, inventory, and fulfillment operations.
- Delegate tasks to the retail team (including the Retail Floor Supervisor) and establish clear processes for follow-up to ensure directives and assignments are completed accurately and on time.
- Be a leader and mentor by providing exceptional customer service. Actively coach and train all sales staff to be proactive sellers with strong product knowledge and excellent visitor engagement skills.
- Disseminate new product knowledge to all sales staff, proactively training the team on the features, background, and exhibition relevance of incoming merchandise to maximize sales potential.
- Manage the retail sales team, including staff recruitment, training, scheduling, conflict resolution, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure store Floor Supervisor and associates are knowledgeable about all store policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and stockroom organization.
- Develop, document, distribute and train on new or updated SOPs as necessary to store staff.
- Assist in visually merchandising the store on an ongoing basis in coordination with the Director of Retail. Proactively identify opportunities to improve displays, optimize product placement, and enhance the overall visitor shopping experience.
- Manage the implementation of store presentation standards. Perform ongoing store walkthroughs and audits, identifying presentation, cleanliness, and organization details that require attention and taking immediate action to resolve them.
- Oversee Stockroom operations, ensuring inventory storage areas are meticulously organized and maintained for efficient merchandise retrieval by all team members.
- Supervise merchandise intake and processing. Coordinate inventory logistics, provide sales team training, and ensure prompt identification and resolution of any receiving discrepancies.
- Lead the daily operations of the online store, focusing on customer satisfaction and daily order fulfillment of web sales. Develop and train staff on best practices and procedures for efficient, customer focused web fulfillment.
- Collaborate with the Director of Retail, and Operations Coordinator to plan, prepare, and execute the annual physical inventory count in compliance with ICA accounting standards.
- Take primary responsibility for the execution of all store open/close protocols and precise financial tasks such as POS close outs, register reconciliation, and bank deposits.
- Oversee all technical aspects of the retail hardware, including the Shopify/POS system, payment readers, and label printers. Act as the main point of contact with IT for troubleshooting and train colleagues on basic technical resolution.
- Create ongoing process documentation to standardize workflows, detailing the steps and actions required to complete the functions of this position, including SOPs.
- Three years of progressive experience as a retail manager or supervisor, preferably in a museum or similar high-touch environment.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail are paramount, particularly in inventory management, data entry, and procedural execution.
