Position Overview
Sous Chef / Food Services Assistant –
Victory Programs
Assist the Chef and Food & Nutritional Services Manager in preparing and delivering daily meals at the Boston Living Center (BLC). Support kitchen operations, maintain food safety standards, and engage volunteers. Report to the Food & Nutritional Services Manager for supervision.
Essential Functions- Prepare and complete daily meal service together with the Manager and Chef, ensuring items are ready for the next meal.
- Independently manage meal preparation and completion when the Chef is absent.
- Assist with monitoring recipe items, ingredient needs, and weekly food ordering.
- Serve daily meals at the BLC with volunteers and kitchen staff.
- Coordinate and direct volunteers for meal service.
- Support program operation in the Manager’s absence, including bimonthly pantry deliveries and cooking classes.
- Inspect and rotate daily food deliveries, ensuring proper storage.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and compliance with health and safety regulations in the kitchen and storage areas.
- Report equipment, repair, or replacement needs promptly.
- Maintain compliance with health department standards and program policies.
- Keep accurate kitchen documentation (sanitation log, menu log).
- Prepare daily prep sheets for upcoming meals with the Chef.
- Provide staffing coverage for evening dinners or special meal services as assigned.
- Attend weekly supervision meetings with the Food & Nutritional Services Manager.
- Act in accordance with Victory Programs’ Standards of Excellence, maintaining professional ethics and client confidentiality.
- Ensure all policies and procedures of the program and agency are followed.
- Assist with projects, special events, and theme dinners.
- Represent the program in the community as requested.
- Attend staff, clinical, training, and fundraising activities.
- Support agency events, rallies, and advocacy efforts.
- Perform any additional duties requested by the supervisor.
- HS Diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of commercial kitchen food service experience.
- Ability to lift 35 pounds.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Experience managing multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
- Demonstrated success in multicultural settings with diverse clients and volunteers.
- CPR certification (may be obtained upon hire).
- TB screening completed (may be obtained upon hire).
- Three work‑related references, at least two from a manager or supervisor.
- Valid Serv Safe certification.
- Type:
Monday‑Friday, occasional evenings & weekend required (40 hrs). - On‑site, non‑exempt.
- Rate: $23.32/hr.
