Research Scientist, Biomedical Science
The Xin Zhou Lab at the Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School seeks a highly motivated research technician for her research group to work on our newest ideas and to help maintain the lab operations ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).). This is an excellent opportunity for recent bachelor’s or master’s graduates who are seeking immersive research experience prior to continuing their career at a graduate or medical school, or for individuals committed to a long‑term research technician position.
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life‑changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS, and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high‑risk and underserved populations.
We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School‑affiliated hospitals.
In the Zhou lab, our priority is to maintain the highest level of rigor in science and to foster a nurturing and inclusive environment. We are a group of scientists who are passionate about bioengineering, therapeutic antibodies, and cell signaling, and we are committed to mentoring a new generation of scientists!
- Responsibilities
Working at the interface of biomolecular engineering and disease biology, the Zhou Lab is breaking new ground with innovative biotechnologies and biomedicine designs for complex diseases that have been traditionally challenging to address. Our research projects encompass the development of innovative protein degraders and synthetic receptors targeting challenging human diseases, signaling reprogramming of immune cells, and biosensing of disease environments.
The recruited member will work closely with Dr. Xin Zhou and senior lab personnel to design and implement protein and cellular engineering experiments. The recruited member can learn diverse laboratory techniques:
- Molecular cloning, cell culture, protein expression, cellular assays
- Biophysical characterization: binding measurement, structural analysis
- Protein evolution:
Phage display, yeast display, protein library construction - Immune cell engineering and characterization
- Fluorescence microscopy
- Cell‑based phenotypic screen
As they build skills, the successful applicant will be expected to work with greater independence to execute SOPs across multiple projects; significant contributions of data and analysis will be recognized with co‑authorship on scientific manuscripts.
The Zhou Lab has state‑of‑the‑art facilities and a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment in Dana‑Farber’s Longwood Center. We are part of the Chemical Biology program and Cancer Biology department at the Dana‑Farber and the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School. We collaborate with disease‑focused scientists and biotherapeutics scientists in both industry and academia to pursue new therapeutic approaches addressing human disease conditions.
QualificationsMinimum qualifications include a bachelor's‑level degree in biology, chemistry, bioengineering, or a related field, hands‑on experience in laboratory research, and basic computer skills. Demonstrated experience in molecular biology or protein expression is required. The successful candidate for this position will be energetic, eager to learn new techniques, and excited by the opportunity to work in a supportive and collegial multidisciplinary lab environment.
Additional requirements for this position include excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, attention to detail, methodical record‑keeping, and a desire to contribute to research projects both independently and within a team. At least two years of commitment to this position are expected.
