The Vertex Gene Editing and Delivery Research Co‑Op program is a 6‑month experiential training program for students currently working toward an undergraduate or advanced degree in Cellular Biology, Chemistry, Material Science, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, or other related fields. If you are passionate, collaborative, and growth‑minded, a co‑op at Vertex will help you gain meaningful experience in our gene editing and delivery functional areas and serve as a launchpad for your career.

What you will be doingVertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a 6‑month Co‑op to join the Gene Editing and Delivery team. This position will contribute to our research efforts in non‑viral delivery to develop transformative medicines for life‑threatening diseases. The candidate will work with team members to design and make various lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulations for screening. The ideal candidate is expected to have experience in the LNP formulation process and characterization assays.
Experience in lipid chemistry and in vitro assays is a plus.
- Design, formulate, and analyze LNP formulations using industry standard protocols.
- Maintain clear and complete documentation of experimental records in the electronic lab notebook.
- Understand and adapt to strategic changes in a dynamic and fast‑paced drug development environment.
- Work in a cross‑functional ecosystem to learn new techniques and expand technical capabilities for effective teamwork and collaboration.
- Present high‑quality data to the team and department.
- Ph.D., Master's, or bachelor's degree (degree obtained or currently pursuing) in cellular biology, chemistry, material science, biochemistry, biophysics, biomedical engineering or related disciplines.
- Hands‑on experience in various LNP formulation process such as mixing technologies and purification techniques.
- Knowledge and/or experience in various LNP characterization analytical assays such as size/PDI, RNA encapsulation efficiency, and pKa assays.
