General
Summary:
The Pharmacology Research Scientist works with a high degree of independence and is adept at conceptually outlining in vivo and in vitro immunological studies to design, execute and interpret assays to study the action of compounds on disease biology. Completes work in a resourceful, self-sufficient manner and is able to design alternative approaches to achieve desired outcomes. Keeps current on the scientific literature relevant to scientific methodology or field(s) of technical expertise.
This level captures both the Research organization’s entry level for staff with a research doctoral degree (PhD) and the advanced experimental expert leading one or more critical laboratory functions with high impact on drug discovery projects.
- Design and conduct elaborate, conceptually connected, multi-component immunological and pharmacological experiments
- Collate and interpret complex data systematically and synthesize results into a cohesive body of conclusions or recommendations to guide Project decisions and new research activities
- Exercises solid judgment to prioritize studies, considering feasibility and Project impact
- Performs advanced and/or complex experimental troubleshooting
- Scours relevant scientific literature and routinely incorporates new insights into research activities
- Identifies, prioritizes and introduces relevant emerging technologies in field of expertise to advance the existing technology platforms and create/maintain competitive advantage
- Explores the feasibility of applying new scientific principles/concepts or implements and validates novel experimental approaches and technologies to achieve project goals
- Independently prepares study presentations and presents experimental conclusions at internal Group/Department or Project Team research meetings
- Contributes significantly to patent and/or publication preparation
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Demonstrated ability to design, execute and interpret complex immunological and pharmacological in vivo and in vitro experiments, to measure the action of compounds in disease relevant contexts
- Expertise in the development and optimization of complex in vivo models of inflammation or autoimmune diseases
- Advanced skills in immunological techniques, such as flow cytometry, immunophenotyping, and in vitro/ex vivo cellular assays, to characterize immune responses and compound efficacy
- Proficiency in a wide range of in vivo techniques, including routes of administration, blood/tissue harvesting, and processing for cellular/molecular analyses of immune responses and target engagement in immune models
- A broad working knowledge of fundamental immunology and pharmacology principles
- Demonstrates astute understanding of own discipline and the relevant literature
- Maintains a high level of knowledge related to current developments in the scientific Project field
- Displays proven productivity and experimental creativity, and effective dissemination of ideas
- Demonstrates effective, self-sufficient communication skills, especially in peer-directed presentations
- Demonstrates awareness of other Project-related disciplines and an understanding of general concepts and some experimental detail within those areas
- Ph.D. in Immunology, pharmacology or related discipline and 0-3 years of relevant post-doctoral employment experience
- Master's degree and 3+ years of relevant employment experience
- Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of relevant employment experience

Pay Range$110,900 - $166,300
Disclosure StatementThe range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
