Position Summary
Dr. Timothy Springer is looking for a highly motivated and resourceful candidate for a Research Assistant I position in his lab. Research in the Springer lab uses exciting and innovative techniques including quantitative biophysical and biochemical assays, cryo
EM, X-ray crystallography, and synthetic antibody discovery. The lab studies the mechanisms of protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions at the heart of cell signaling pathways, focusing on integrins and TGF-betas. These studies are relevant to immunology, hemostasis, and human pathologies like autoimmune diseases, cancer, and fibrosis. This is a unique opportunity for recent graduates to learn new biology and techniques, hone their research skills, and sharpen their scientific mind before applying to graduate or medical school.

- Conducting a research project under supervision of a senior lab member. Performing a wide range of molecular biology, cell culture, and biochemistry techniques according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
- Performing general lab tasks such as maintenance of common lab supplies and equipment and making solutions and media.
- Performing the following techniques typically required for the laboratory/study:
Maintains records of results and methodologies in a log of work performed. Maintains equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner. Prepare media and other materials using appropriate procedures. Inventories supplies, alerts supervisor to needed supplies. - Conducting literature searches and reviews to further own knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information.
- Contributing to the team within and between departments and organizations.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM or Psychology;
Biology/Biochemistry preferred.
- The analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
- The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Strongly motivated, highly organized and willing to put in extra hours when needed.
- A minimum of a two year commitment is highly preferred.
- Previous laboratory experience preferred but not necessary
