Overview
A postdoctoral fellowship position is available in the lab of Dr. Steve Blum at the Massachusetts General Hospital Krantz Family Center for Cancer Research and Harvard Medical School. The Blum Lab develops safer and more effective cancer immunotherapies by integrating primary human samples, systems immunology, and disease-relevant models to uncover mechanisms of treatment toxicity and resistance. The lab's long-term goal is to inspire new therapeutic strategies and improve clinical care by maximizing anti-tumor immunity while minimizing harm.
Current efforts focus on two major challenges: peritoneal metastases and malignant ascites, and immune-related adverse events (irAEs). The lab seeks to better understand the biology of these immunosuppressive microenvironments and identify novel therapeutic opportunities, and to understand the drivers of the potentially dangerous complications caused by immune checkpoint inhibitors and their relationship to anti-tumor responses to identify better models, therapeutic strategies, and biomarkers.
- Lead and execute wet-lab experiments using patient-derived samples and relevant model systems
- Analyze and interpret results in conjunction with computational and clinical collaborators
- Prepare figures, present findings, drive manuscripts, and craft fellowship/grant applications
- Contribute to a rigorous, collaborative lab culture through teamwork and discussion
- Mentor junior trainees as appropriate
- Highly motivated and organized individual excited to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
- PhD, MD/PhD, or MD with research training in biological sciences
- Proficiency in basic molecular biology, tissue culture, and biochemical techniques
- Experience with flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, organoid models, immune cell engineering, multi-omics workflows, and/or quantitative analysis is preferred but not required
- Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills
- First-authored publication(s) of scientific work
Interested applicants should email a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references to Dr. Steve Blum (sblumvard.edu). Please include in the email subject "Postdoc Application:
