We are looking for an associate computational biologist to join a computationally-oriented team led by Rameen Beroukhim and Simona Dalin at the Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute and Broad Institute. The role focuses on developing and applying cutting‑edge genomic algorithms to characterize genomic rearrangements in cancers and normal tissues, and better understand how errors in double‑strand break repair lead to these rearrangements.
The successful candidate will collaborate with laboratory scientists, computational biologists, cancer geneticists, and software engineers to discover and understand alterations in the cancer genome and identify potential therapeutic vulnerabilities.
Responsibilities- Build data processing pipelines to convert raw data into formats compatible with conventional statistical analysis and visualization under mentorship.
- Perform routine data analysis following detailed protocols.
- Monitor, download, organize, and manage data from public repositories or collaborators.
- Assist in manuscript preparation, including tables and figures.
- Develop timelines and coordinate multiple routine projects, ensuring smooth progress of complex multidisciplinary efforts.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in UNIX/Linux, scripting with Python, and statistical programming in R.
- Strong background in mathematics and statistics with knowledge of experimental design and modern data analysis paradigms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to present results and discuss ideas clearly.
- Strong interpersonal skills, effective at interacting with staff at all levels and external contacts.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Self‑starter with strong problem‑solving and collaboration abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (life sciences, physical sciences, computational sciences) or equivalent.
- Knowledge of programming (R, BASH) and statistical methods.
- No prior experience required; prior research exposure is a plus.
Minimum 2‑year commitment. Intended start before March 2026; applicants completing current degree in Spring 2026 are also considered. Full‑time position. Salary range: $60,000.00 – $67,466.00.
