Job Summary
The Nursing Director for the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute at Brigham and Women’s Hospital multidisciplinary clinics is responsible for the support and oversight of ambulatory cancer care including medical oncology, radiation oncology, and surgical oncology. The Ambulatory Nurse Director leads and supports nursing practice across complex oncology specialties, ensuring high‑quality, coordinated outpatient care that is patient‑ and family‑centered, culturally sensitive, and grounded in collaborative, team‑based cancer care.
GeneralOverview
As the clinical leader of the discipline, the Nursing Director establishes and maintains standards of nursing care and practice. The Nursing Director, nurse managers, nurse practitioner team managers, and professional development managers collaborate with inter‑professional and intra‑professional leadership to set mutual goals that advance teamwork, interdisciplinary learning, just culture, and the environment of care.

- Provides peer consultation and collaboration within the department and wider organization.
- Collaborates with MGBCI Vice Presidents of Nursing and other hospital committees.
- Engages in interdisciplinary collaboration and protocol development.
- Supports recruitment, retention, and staffing resource management.
- Fiscal Responsiveness
- Establishes trends necessary to determine personnel and supply budgets.
- Manages budget variances and collaborates with Associate Chief Nurse on fiscal responsiveness.
- Develops schedules and staffing plans that meet continuous patient care needs.
- Responsible for the supervision of Nurse Managers, RNs, LPNs, and clinical support personnel through dotted‑line matrixed structures.
- Reports directly to the Associate Chief Nurse of Nursing and Clinical Services of the designated area.
- Current registration/licensure in nursing in Massachusetts.
- MSN, DNP, PhD, or BSN with a master’s degree in a related field.
- Current certification required or to be attained within two years from the date of hire.
- Minimum of 2 years nurse manager and/or nurse director experience in an ambulatory clinic setting.
- Experience managing staff at clinics in multiple sites/locations.
- Demonstrated evidence of exemplary nursing practice in multiple specialty areas.
- Minimum of 3 years oncology nursing experience.
- Recent experience as a nurse leader in a highly matrixed leadership structure.
