Join Boston Medical Center (BMC) as a Transfer Center RN. This role coordinates patient admissions and transfers between BMC Health System facilities to ensure a smooth, efficient, and safe transition.

Position Summary

The Transfer Center Nurse acts as a liaison among patients, healthcare providers, and receiving facilities, requiring strong clinical knowledge, organizational skills, and effective communication.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties
  • Coordinate patient admissions from external and internal sources, verifying clinical and insurance information.
  • Manage transfer requests, prioritizing by urgency, bed availability, and resources.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for physicians, nurses, case managers, and facilities.
  • Review medical records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Facilitate bed assignments and communicate status updates.
  • Provide clinical assessment and triage support during admissions and transfers.
  • Collaborate with case management and social work teams on complex situations.
  • Maintain accurate records of admissions and transfers for reporting and quality assurance.
  • Participate in initiatives to improve transfer center operations and patient experience.
  • Provide coverage for the Off‑Shift Nurse Supervisor as needed.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Associate’s of Science in Nursing; ability to obtain Bachelor’s within first 4 years at BMC.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in a transfer center or admissions department.
  • Experience in emergency, critical care, or intermediate care preferred.
Certifications, Licences, Registrations Required
  • Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts.

    Articulate complex information orally and written.
  • Hospital admission processes, insurance verification, regulatory compliance.

Compensation Range

$39.90–$57.93 per hour. Total compensation includes benefits, bonuses, and other company offerings.
