Three 12hr shifts, every third weekend and every other holiday rotation required.
Job SummaryThe registered nurse renders highly professional and technical nursing care to assigned patients. The registered nurse provides direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Oversees other assigned team members and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide population specific care in accordance with the BORN regulations and professional standards of care.

- Contributes to the overall quality of services.
- Assumes responsibility for keeping informed about changes.
- Makes independent decisions within the scope of nursing practice.
- Uses the nursing process and evidence based practice to ensure quality patient care is provided throughout the episode of care.
- Assesses the patient’s physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, and social needs.
- Provides competent and compassionate care specific to the unique needs of the individual patients and populations served.
- Individualizes care considering age, developmental or physical abilities, and cultural factors; updates knowledge to meet patient care needs.
- Applies knowledge of illness, injury, and disease in assessment and recognizes symptoms requiring immediate intervention.
- Develops and updates an individualized plan of care in collaboration with patient/family and multidisciplinary team.
- Engages patient/family/significant others as partners in care and discharge planning.
- Implements clinical and technical aspects of care and physicians’ orders in accordance with standards of practice.
- Evaluates responses to goals and interventions and revises the plan of care as needed.
- Sets priorities in planning and implementing patient care; coordinates discharge planning with appropriate resources.
- Recognizes changes in patient status and informs appropriate physicians or health care professionals.
- Collaborates with Case Managers to anticipate discharge needs and address barriers.
- Ensures safe, therapeutic environment for patients, self, and co-workers; uses two patient identifiers for care coordination.
- Follows infection control, OSHA, Hazardous Material Guidelines, and isolation procedures.
- Protects patient and hospital privacy; ensures appropriate documentation and communication across care continuum.
- Assists in medications and IV administration, uses the five rights, and verifies orders per unit protocols.
- Coordinates and collaborates on educational planning for patients and families; documents education and assesses learning outcomes.
- Demonstrates judgment and decision making, professional growth, and accountability for care given to assigned patients.
- Acts as a resource and role model; assists in orientation and support of new staff; escalates care concerns as needed.
- Promotes a cooperative work environment and effective communication; resolves conflicts with tact and clarity.
- Performs duties of charge nurse as needed and participates in performance improvement activities.
- Device Clinic RN: enrolls, interrogates, and programs outpatient pacemaker patients; coordinates care and documentation; leads device recall team; maintains budgetary input and cross-coverage as needed.
- STAT RN: supports rapid responses/Code Blue, assists with admissions/transfers of critically ill patients, and collaborates across units as needed.
