Since 1985, BHCHP’s mission has been to ensure unconditionally equitable and dignified access to the highest quality health care for all individuals and families experiencing homelessness in greater Boston. Over 10,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. We are committed to ensuring that every one of these individuals has access to comprehensive health care, from preventative dental care to cancer treatment.

Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program is seeking a full‑time Registered Nurse to work at our clinics at the 112 Southampton Street emergency men’s shelter operated by the Boston Public Health Commission and the Transitions shelter, plus other sites as required. Travel between sites is required. This position provides daily nursing support for clinic patients as part of a multidisciplinary team in a highly collaborative environment.

The role is crucial to ensuring clinically appropriate, timely decisions regarding patient assessments, administration of medications and treatments, and overall patient care. Other responsibilities include educating patients on medication and general health information.

• Provide direct nursing care of patients on the assigned team, ensuring that all needs of the patients are met in conformance with established policies, procedures, and Department of Health regulations.
• Conduct accurate assessments and documentation; report to appropriate personnel as indicated (e.g., on‑call provider, nurse manager, site manager).
• Administer medications and treatments skillfully and correctly; document per policy and observe/report any adverse reactions.
• Update and maintain accurate treatment records, flow sheets, and vaccine administration documentation; observe/report any adverse reactions.
• Provide nursing activities in association with primary care clinical operations (direct care, case management, immunization, screenings).
• Provide triage and nursing assessment of walk‑in and scheduled patients as directed.
• Give and receive reports at shift changes; participate in cross‑training at other clinics to check narcotics and related drug supplies per policy; sign appropriate forms.
• Take orders accurately, per policy; maintain a professional approach with confidentiality.
• Maintain accurate and complete recording and reporting standards; ensure the clinical record for each patient is current and accurate.
• Educate patients according to their needs, using nursing knowledge and skills in areas such as TB, HIV, and medications to promote physical and mental well‑being.
• Participate in orientation and in‑service training for personnel, student nurses, and other health professionals as indicated.
• Support and attend mandatory in‑service education programs per facility protocol.
• Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed to meet program needs at the discretion of the Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing.

• Commonwealth of Massachusetts RN license.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience preferred.
• Experience with underserved populations preferred.
