Position Summary:
A licensed and credentialed Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and follow-up under the direction of one or more physicians in the clinic. The NP performs age and specialty-appropriate physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter- and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership and patient care management across the health care continuum from preventative, acute care through discharge.
Position Summary:

The NP performs age and specialty-appropriate physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines. The NP is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter- and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership and patient care management across the health care continuum from preventative, acute care through discharge.
- Management and peri-procedural care of outpatient cardiac catheterization patients.
- Primary role as Valve Program Coordinator, including coordination of Cardiac Valve Clinic (in concert with CT surgery), guiding patients through valve/structural heart workups, and administrative duties involving structural heart registry and follow-up.
- Under general supervision of a cardiologist, provide medical services including obtaining complete medical history, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies; formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan; prescribing and/or dispensing medication; counseling patients and families; and other patient care duties.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified Nurse Practitioners must hold at least an MSN from a program accredited by the CCNE or ACEN.
- The NP must be eligible for a Massachusetts NP license.
- If prescribing medications as part of clinical duties and privileges, Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substances Registration are required.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a nurse practitioner is required; cardiology or cardiac surgery experience is preferred.
- Expert clinical judgment and the ability to be self-directed and demonstrate initiative in an expanded role.
- Self-directed, initiative, professionalism, and ability to exercise expert clinical judgment to function independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English to convey complex medical information to patients, families, physicians, staff, and community health workers; willingness to address language or social barriers to healthcare.
- Ability to adapt to changing clinical needs.
- Interest or expertise in caring for diverse patient populations with varying levels of health literacy.
