The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hired for this role will partner with and perform clinical duties under the general supervision of the Division Chief of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology. The candidate will be responsible for providing outpatient clinical care in support of the memory disorders practice. Commonly encountered diagnoses include Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, mild cognitive impairment, cognitive impairment secondary to mood or anxiety disorders, and subjective cognitive impairment in the setting of otherwise healthy aging.

While the position will be based within the Department of Neurology, Boston Medical Center is implementing a multidisciplinary Memory Disorders Clinic in partnership with the Geriatrics Section in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry. As such, they will be expected to collaborate closely with colleagues from both departments regarding shared patients and the overall mission of providing outstanding clinical care for all patients with memory disorders.

The Department of Neurology at Boston Medical Center is a full‑service clinical and academic program that provides advanced treatment for patients with a broad spectrum of diseases and disorders of the brain, nervous system, peripheral nerves, spinal cord, and related muscle and blood vessels. Our team includes highly experienced physicians and nurse practitioners who subspecialize in all major areas of neurology.

We have multidisciplinary programs in neuro‑critical care, neuro‑oncology, infectious disease, and cerebrovascular disease that provide our patients with a broad spectrum of treatment options. This role will be structured as a 4‑day per week, 10‑hr per day position. Responsibilities will include both shared clinics with neurology physicians and clinics where the candidate will function as an independent practitioner.

General Responsibilities
  • Obtaining complete medical history and performing a physical examination.
  • Ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies.
  • Administering and interpreting appropriate cognitive screening tests (MMSE, MoCA, RUDAS).
  • Formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Evaluating outcomes of patient care and making necessary revisions in care plan.
  • Setting priorities for appropriate and efficient management of patient care that reflect cost effective management of time, available human resources, supplies, and equipment.
  • Performing physical examinations within prescribed guidelines and appropriate to patient needs.
  • Recording pertinent patient care findings in the medical record.
  • Maintaining an interdisciplinary approach to planning and communicating patient care information with appropriate providers within neurology and other departments at Boston Medical Center.
  • Seeking and providing consultative services as required.
  • Demonstrating awareness of community resources and assisting staff, patients, and families to effectively utilize them.
  • Prescribing and/or dispensing medication.
  • May be involved with a patient's medical care in any role which the attending physician deems proper and consistent with applicable law, hospital regulations, delineation of privileges, and the Nurse Practitioner’s or Physician Assistant's training, knowledge, skill, and experience.
