These roles focus on providing high-quality patient care and promoting wellness. APCs work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat a variety of acute and chronic conditions. The role includes conducting comprehensive patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing and implementing treatment plans, providing education to patients and families, evaluating therapeutic response, and adjusting interventions as needed.
This is a professional individual contributor position that may direct the work of lower‑level professionals or manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation, or delivery of programs and policies using specialized knowledge typically acquired through advanced education.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for providing primary care for a caseload of patients. As an advanced practice nurse, the NP has received specialized training and education in the management of acute care. Responsibilities include comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment; prescribing and performing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions; supervising protocols; evaluating and modifying treatment plans; reviewing and prescribing therapeutic orders; participating in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures;
and providing patient and family‑centered care and discharge planning.
- Master's degree in Nursing.
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Three (3) years of nursing experience.
- Certifications such as ACLS or PALS may be required.
- Five (5) years of nursing experience.
- Specialty nursing certification.
- Provides advanced nursing knowledge and experience to care for the assigned caseload in collaboration with the attending physician.
- Performs comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of common problems.
- Provides symptom management with attention to goals of care.
- Provides age‑appropriate care and adheres to professional standards.
- Performs procedures and treatments using judgment and established guidelines.
- Orders and administers medication, monitors response, and ensures safe use of equipment.
- Documents clear, comprehensive initial and follow‑up notes and orders appropriate diagnostics.
- Plans for home care and follow‑up as necessary.
- Initiates referrals and consultations with specialists as indicated.
- Facilitates family and team meetings appropriate to patient needs.
- Leads and coordinates the medical/nursing plan of care and fosters collegial relationships.
- Delegates responsibilities to colleagues with appropriate understanding of roles.
- Builds cooperative relationships across disciplines to ensure quality patient care.
- Maintains collaborative work relationships with peers and colleagues.
- Serves as a nursing leader and role model to all team members.
- Performs the role consistently and professionally, holding self‑accountable.
- Influences others by establishing a climate for optimal patient care and professional development.
- Participates in performance improvement activities to support and enhance patient care.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and review minutes when absent.
- Keeps current with literature on evolving practices, interventions, and research.
- Seeks out educational and professional opportunities for growth.
- Maintains mandatory education requirements and unit‑specific competencies.
- Acts as a preceptor to new NPs and graduate NP students when requested.
