Heading Home is Boston’s leading provider of housing and support services for infants to the elderly—a champion of innovative solutions that move people through and out of homelessness. Heading Home provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent housing, and supportive services to 2,000 homeless and formerly homeless families and individuals in Greater Boston, annually. The supportive services alongside housing help clients create futures without homelessness.

On any given night, Heading Home clients include 530+ households living stably with support in Greater Boston neighborhoods.

• Research and identify new grant opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission and programs.
• Develop and maintain an annual grants calendar with deadlines for proposals, reports, and renewals.
• Collaborate with program staff to gather information needed for proposals and reports.
• Write compelling, customized grant proposals and LOIs (letters of inquiry) to prospective funders.
• Track the status of submitted proposals and manage post-award processes.
• Ensure all grant requirements are met, including timely reporting, documentation, and outcome tracking.
• Maintain accurate records in the grants database or CRM, including deadlines, deliverables, and correspondence.
• Monitor grant expenditures and assist with budget development and reconciliation in collaboration with finance staff.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective funders.
• Coordinate site visits, funder meetings, and other stewardship activities.
• Prepare progress reports, success stories, and other materials for funder communication.
• Work cross-functionally with development, finance, and program teams to align funding with program needs.
• Support fundraising events, campaigns, or donor communications as needed.

• Commitment to Heading Home’s mission.
• Minimum 1–3 years of grant writing, preferably in a human services or homelessness-related nonprofit.
• Proven success in securing funding from foundations and corporations.
• Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills.
• Highly organized and able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and grant tracking databases (e.g., Raiser’s Edge NXT, Salesforce, Foundant, Grant Hub).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organization and time management skills.
• Must be able to exercise sound judgment and confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, take initiative, and be a self‑starter.

Cubicle space within large office building; prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May require equal amounts of sitting and standing ice is open to the public and visitors only by appointment. Position requires a minimum of four days onsite after training period. Office is climate controlled with heat and air conditioning.
