Position Title: Email Marketing Manager

Position Classification: Regular, Exempt;
Full-Time; 40hrs/week

Reports to: Associate Director, Digital Marketing

Location: Employees in this role can work from our Boston, MA office, remotely within the U.S. or hybrid of these two options (up to 5% domestic and/or international travel)

Position Overview

The Email Marketing Manager plans, develops, and manages all aspects of the email marketing program within the digital team, with the two main priorities:
1) growing unrestricted revenue primarily at the $1-10,000 level and
2) keeping the current base engaged with the Partners In Health (PIH) mission. They manage the program’s strategy (including segmentation, testing, and supporter journeys), production (writing compelling fundraising messages and building them in mass communication tools), and execution of email campaigns (implementing various tests to maximize fundraising potential and reporting on results) for both new donor acquisition on email channels and ongoing cultivation efforts.

The Manager works under the direction of the Associate Director of Digital Marketing and manages the Email Associate, providing direction, delegation, and coaching. They work in close collaboration with the Development group to align fundraising efforts within the broader Resource Generation Branch (RGB). This position also collaborates closely with the other Marketing and Communications teams to make sure email fundraising content is consistent with other PIH messaging decisions and integrate content.

Responsibilities

And Deliverables

Email Program Execution — 50%

  • Write/edit compelling fundraising, stewardship, and cultivation messages.
  • Use revenue data, audience data, and industry benchmarks to set conversion and fundraising targets. Track and report performance metrics across the channel.
  • Develop custom journeys to drive conversion based on audience insights and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain an elongated email calendar and coordinate timely production and approval processes.

Email Program Strategy — 30%

  • Oversee the email marketing program from journey mapping and segmentation to campaign strategy and deployment (updates, appeals, cultivation, advocacy, event emails).
  • Collaborate across RGB and Advocacy to develop and plan cross-channel campaigns by providing channel-specific tactical recommendations.
  • Manage and report on list health indicators; recommend strategies to improve retention, conversion, and grow our core donors.
  • Support and grow the monthly giving program through the email channel.

Team Management — 20%

  • Coach, mentor, and develop the Email Associate.
  • Provide feedback on content, fundraising tactics, and strategic direction of the email program.
Required Experience, Education, Licenses Or Certifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in a digital communications role with a focus on email program management.
Required Skills
  • Excellent digital writing and editing skills for fundraising.
  • Experience collaborating with designers to produce high quality promotional and informational content.
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Updated understanding of digital channel trends and best practices, and commitment to applying to PIH specific context.
  • Proven data-driven, audience-centric approach to campaign building. Solid understanding of analytics.
  • Proficiency with marketing automation tools.
Preferred Skills
  • Proficient in Hubspot.
