Communications Coordinator

The YMCA of Greater Boston is seeking an outgoing, self-motivated, detail-oriented Communications Coordinator. In this position, you will equip recruiters with the information and tools they need to fill vital positions within Child Education & Development Programs with talented, able candidates. The Communications Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the mission and visibility of the YMCA of Greater Boston by supporting email, internal, and organizational communications.

This position is responsible for executing clear, consistent, and timely communications that engage staff, members, partners, and the broader community, while reinforcing the Y’s voice, values, and strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Email & Digital Communications

  • Draft, schedule, and distribute member, and stakeholder email communications, including newsletters, announcements, and campaign messaging.
  • Manage email calendars and coordinate content across departments and centers to ensure alignment and accuracy.
  • Maintain email lists, segmentation, and basic performance reporting (open rates, click-throughs, bounces, etc.).
  • Support digital campaigns related to programs, events, fundraising, and community initiatives.

Internal Communications

  • Coordinate and produce internal communications for staff, including newsletters, leadership announcements, organizational updates, events, and key initiatives.
  • Support consistent messaging across departments, centers, and programs to ensure staff are informed and aligned.
  • Collaborate with HR, Operations, and Executive Leadership on internal announcements, celebrations and change communications.
  • Help maintain internal communication platforms (SharePoint, Dial My Calls, Microsoft Forms, Microsoft Teams).

Content & Coordination

  • Write, edit, and proofread content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with YMCA brand standards and tone.
  • Collect and organize content from across the organization, including stories, photos, and updates.
  • Support communications planning for campaigns, events, and organizational milestones.
  • Assist with basic project management, timelines, and approvals.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings between Marketing and Communications.
Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1–3 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related role.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail and audience-focused messaging.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (Constant Contact, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, or similar).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
