Systems Engineer
SiPhox is bringing silicon-photonics diagnostics out of the central lab and into the home. We combine photonics, microfluidics, embedded systems, and semiconductor-grade manufacturing to quantify multiple biomarkers in minutes on a coffee-maker-sized device—aiming to build the first mass-market photonic blood analyzer to improve chronic disease care and increase human healthspan.
The OpportunityWe’re hiring an Embedded AI Systems Engineer to architect and own the firmware layer that runs the instrument end-to-end: optics, fluidics, thermal control, sensing, motion, safety, and UX. You’ll define the real-time behaviors that make a complex, multi-domain system operate with medical-grade precision and reliability, partnering closely across EE, systems, assay, photonics, fluidics, mechanical, and software.
What You’ll Do- Build production embedded firmware: HALs, RT state machines, event-driven control, inter-module comms
- Convert system needs into clear, testable requirements and designs
- Implement/optimize machine vision + signal processing for electromechanical accuracy
- Develop bootloaders, calibration flows, diagnostics, and test/fixture firmware
- Lead bring-up → V&V → commercial release, integrating across sensors, motion, fluidics, photonics, and cloud/app
- Own reliability/safety: hazard analysis, FMEA inputs, fault-tolerant behaviors, verification automation + traceability
- Debug complex system issues; optimize timing, control loops, memory, and performance
Must-have
- Strong C/C++ for embedded (drivers, bring-up, real-time control)
- RTOS experience (e.g., FreeRTOS/Zephyr/Thread
X/VxWorks) - Experience with common MCU families (STM
32/ESP
32/NXP/Nordic or similar) - Proven firmware architecture ownership + excellent cross-disciplinary debugging
- BS in EE/CE/CS (or equivalent), US work authorization, occasional travel (
