We are currently seeking an experienced legal assistant to join our Litigation Coverage team in our Boston office. Ideal candidates will have 3+ years of related work experience. High school diploma required.
Essential Functions- Log incoming mail using Pro Law and its dockets, e-mail mail to attorney and paralegal
- Proofread pleadings, discovery, letters, client reports at attorney’s request
- Schedule depositions, mediations, hearings and other meetings
- Serve pleadings and discovery at attorney’s request with preparation of standard enclosure letters as needed
- Submit budgets at attorney direction
- Check court rosters for hearings and trials
- Copy and mail outgoing regular, overnight and certified mail
- Follow up to ensure executed and filed settlement documents are received
- Send closing file letter to client(s) and request final bill (at attorney direction)
- Other non-billable tasks as assigned
- Cooperates with co-workers
- Responds politely to internal staff, clients, vendors, etc.
- Ability to type 50+ wpm
- Familiarity with transcription and transcription devices
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate by e-mail and telephone with a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and to provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact
- Possess excellent organizational skills and pay close attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to gain competence in database management systems
- Must possess ability to take initiative and handle various tasks simultaneously while working efficiently, effectively and independently under minimal supervision
- Must have ability to work in a high-pressure environment
